Facilities Management
Environmental sustainability at Stellenbosch University
Our aim:
To minimize the environmental impact of travel and encourage the use of efficient modes of transport that will contribute to the reduction of emissions.
Projects & programmes
EV stations
Several charging stations will be installed on both Tygerberg and Stellenbosch campuses to charge electric vehicles. This project will also be used for research purposes as part of our living labs on campus.
NMT routes
Our spatial development plan includes the implementation of several Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) routes on the Stellenbosch campus to reduce our carbon emissions and vehicle movement on campus.
Cycling
A campus vehicle pool enables staff and students to rent Matie bicycles.
Secure bicycle sheds and racks have been constructed to encourage an increase of bicycle use instead of using vehicles.
What can you do to help:
Cut your carbon emissions and save money and parking hassles by choosing one of the following transport options:
- WALK on the safe, patrolled pedestrian routes.
- CYCLE on a Matie Bike (available to rent) or bring your own.
- RIDE on the campus shuttle bus available on certain routes.
- SHARE a ride.
